ABOUT US
Welcome to BOUTIQUE PRIMITIVE !
We are delighted that you found us here…
Boutique Primitive is the new brainchild of clothing designer Mickey Wolf and musician Aimee Lay. The result is carefully curated fashion from the 1950s through the 1980s. Although Presley and Punk is a part of their range, their vintage repertoire is mainly focussed on Mod, Dandy and Hippie fashions of the 1960s and 70s. But that is only their vintage part. They are also introducing designs under their own label.
Prior to selling vintage clothing and the creation of Boutique Primitive, Mickey Wolf was a designer of his own clothing label in England called Velvet Illusion. Velvet Illusion was born out of the spirit of 1960s Carnaby Street Swinging London. Although the shop closed over a decade ago, the label still enjoys a loyal following throughout the world and is regarded as a cult brand. Boutique Primitive builds upon this foundation yet adds a fresh new twist.
Boutique Primitive began through word of mouth. Mickey crafted a signature leather belt for himself that he wore all of the time. People began to approach him and ask where they could buy one. Not before long, he was dressing dozens and dozens of Rock n Roll bands and boutiques were asking to carry his belts in their shops. However, it wasn’t until 2024 that Aimee would finally convince Mickey it was time to create a brand again.
As for Aimee Lay, she is a beloved figure in the Los Angeles Mod scene. She is known almost as much for her 1960s clothing style as she is for her music. She brings in a lot of expertise with her own collection and unique fashion sense. It is not a surprise that she can always be found either performing on a music stage, seeing a band play, or on a hunt for the ultimate vintage clothing piece.
A couple in real-life, the two met in the underground music scenes of Los Angeles and have continued to bond through a shared passion for the fashion, music, truth seeking and mind expanding spirit of the 1960s and 70s. Based out of Echo Park, Los Angeles, they truly live and breathe this lifestyle and are well known characters throughout the LA creative scene and community.
